REPUBLICAN IN EXILE MONTAUBAN: THE TOMB OF MANUEL ana. OUR NEW HOME !!!!!!

One of the first things I did to reach this city, was addressing the cemetery, there is the tomb of Manuel Azana, who like many other exiles were killed on French soil Republicans .. ..
Manuel Diez Azaña (Alcalá de Henares, January 10, 1880 - Montauban, France November 3, 1940) was a English writer and politician who held the positions of Prime Minister of Spain (1931-1933, 1936) and Chairman of the Second English Republic (1936-1939). Manuel Azana
out their last months of back and forth to the south of France, after leaving the English government after the fall of Catalonia at the hands of Franco's fascist army, and that France would open the borders to civilians.
Then came his controversial resignation and not wanting to return to Spain, which was widely criticized, even taken as a treason. During his stay in France was persecuted by the Gestapo through collaboration Falangists them, managed to stop his family and then deported, an echo that affected her to the point of having a hint of stroke, which added to the denial of exit visas to France of former Republican leaders in Spain, was forced to move by French free zone after months ....... and after a stroke was admitted to Montauban where it would be helped by the ambassador of Mexico. ...... there, spent his last months of life, besieged again by Falangist groups ...... died on 3 November.
France (let the area not occupied by Nazi Germany) under the direction at the time of Marshal Pétain prohibited to be buried with honors of Head of State only agreed to his coffin was covered with the English flag, provided this was the bicolor rojigualda and in no way the republican tricolor flag. Ambassador of Mexico decided that it was buried covered with the Mexican flag ......

"cover it with pride the flag of Mexico will be our privilege, for Republicans hope, and for you, a painful lesson

A POR LA III REPÚBLICA!!!!!!!!

Toulouse and the cities surrounding it became an asile for the spanish Republicans, escaping from Franco and his sympathizers. In Montauban there is a grave of the last republican president of Spain: Manuel Azaña Diez
The place was the first site to visit for us here in Montauban. We went for a lovely sunday stroll, enjoying the summerly weather and once again found out, that we are a part of history, which not only is happening on the pages of books, but surrounding us anywhere we go.
